Anyone else a huge Bollywood fan? My late dad used to buy half a dozen Hindi movies on VHS every weekend (Yes, that's how old I am! Yes, we owned VCRs LOL). This is how he could keep us home during the weekends and keep an eye on my sister and I.
Anyways, because he used to buy so many movies to keep us busy, we grew up watching a TON! Which ones are my absolute favorite you ask? A ton from the 90s!
Here are a few of my all time fave Hindi movies in no particular order:
Kshatriya
Sadak, 1991 (I saw a new one is coming out in 2019)
Dilwale, 1994
Deewana
Saajan
Kartoos
Beta
Hero No. 1
Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
Ram Laakhan
Khalnayak
Karan Arjun
Baazigar
Koyla
Bombay
Judwaa
Hum Saath Saath Hain
Dil To Pagal Hai
Biwi No. 1
Mohra
Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge
Haseena Maan Jaayegi
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
And like a hundred more!
Yes, there is a trend. I love Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan. Have you seen Sanju yet!? I bawled it was SO GOOD. I had heard about some of Sanjay's struggles growing up, but the movie really cleared up everything. I felt awful for him and his tough life. I also didn't realize how amazing and patient his father was. I thought the movie was well done and that all of the actors and actresses did an amazing job. I know there are lots of things that happened in his life that were not included in the movie and caused some controversies; such as, his previous marriages and first daughter. But I also agree that movie would be like 5 hours long if all of those events were included.
My favorite actresses back then were Raveena Tandon, mostly because her name was Sapna in most of her movies, Karsima Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Now my favorites are Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji and Katrina Kaif.
As they say, you can take an Indian out of India, but you can't take India out of an Indian. I know, I'm super fob for someone who was born in Canada LOL. I'm so in love with our culture and traditions. I even try to teach my son the Hindi language and dance. It's very difficult though because my husband doesn't speak Hindi. SO it's usually me talking and listening to 90's Bollywood dance mix and hoping my son will pick up a few things. I also try to teach him words and read all of his books in English and afterwards repeat in Hindi. I hope he picks up the language - even if its just a few basic words.
