Have you tried Saree Silhouettes by Tia Bhuva? This is not an ad. This is my personal opinion of how this product changed my dislike of draping a saree to a positive obsession.
I'm not a tall person by any means. I am 4 feet 11.5. Yes, the 0.5 counts! Anyways, I grew up wearing a ton of Punjabi suits (salwar kaamezs) and lenghas because I disliked draping a saree. Why? Because I'm short. They made me look even shorter AND I felt frumpy wearing one. In our culture, sarees are usually worn for formal functions. If you know me well, you know how much I enjoy to dance. I would avoid wearing sarees at all costs if I knew I was going to be dancing at a party. Long story short, if I chose to drape a saree out, I'd be sitting the entire time because I was afraid of it unravelling or worse, me tripping flat on to my face. I'm very clumsy.
Fast forward to now, I gained a few extra pounds since I've had my son. 50 pounds would be a lie...55 pounds is more like it. I did lose close to 30 pounds at delivery woohoo. 5.9 of it was my kid. Teeny, I know. Anyways, the last stretch of 20 pounds is NOT MOVING. I've been eating no carbs and cooking at home ALL of the time (see Insta and Blog). But to be honest I do not have a good exercise routine. I have also read that breastfeeding may cause your body to release some hormones and signal it to store fat. Apparently, the baby sucks out a ton of calories during nursing. Ya, okay, we'll see about that. To say the least, I have not been feeling the sexiest with my body of late.
Exploring through Instagram I came across a page for saree silhouettes. I saw a ton of moms posting before and after pictures of them in it. Before, would be a picture of a mom wearing a regular petticoat with a saree draped over it, and after was a picture of her in a silhouette underneath the saree. You guys, it's like a night and day difference! The ladies look TINY in their sarees. Could there be such a thing? YES!! The petticoats that are originally made with sarees are definitely frumpy especially at the waist. The silhouette is like spanx under your saree, except much more comfortable. Its made with super stretchy and light weight material. WHERE WAS THIS MY ENTIRE LIFE?
I ordered it from Tia's website with express shipping, because I am an impulsive shopper and wanted to know what all the hub bub was all about, asap. I emailed Tia's company because I couldn't figure out sizing. Obviously, I'm a shorty and needed a petite, but I was torn between a medium silhouette and a large. They responded promptly, and advised that large would be comfortable and medium would be snug. I figured I'd shed the 20 pounds eventually and ended up ordering a medium in nude. It is SUPER comfy! I actually could have ordered a small but maybe I'll do that next time they have a sale, because now I want one in each colour especially that gorgeous blue.
Today, I'm obsessed with sarees! I want to drape one all of the time. I have watched dozens of YouTube videos on how to drape one, how to perfect the pleats and how to wear the pallu in multiple ways. Now, wearing a saree makes me feel thin and elegant, especially with the silhouette underneath. It hides all of my rolls too! SOMEONE THROW A DIPPER PARTY FAST! To be honest, I do find the silhouettes a bit expensive, especially with the express shipping and that is why I keep entering all of the giveaway contests to win more. I apologize to my friends and sister whom I constantly tag on Instagram for the contests - I REALLY WANT TO WIN!
Growing up, my late Dad really liked it when I wore a saree. He said it looked classy, plus he thought I should practice draping it young, as after I got married I'd be wearing them more often. Except, I didn't tell him that I felt like a water buffalo when wearing one. His compliments meant a lot to me. Well, now that I discovered the silhouette and how pretty it makes me feel to drape a saree - I wish he was here today to witness me wearing sarees happily. OH and I can definitely dance in my sarees now as it does not give me the fear of unravelling either. I learned an abundance amount of pinning techniques from YouTube as well.
Thanks Tia for your amazing creation!
